Commissioned in Royal Engineers, 1874; went to India, 1877; served Afghan War, 1878–791880 (medal); employed in Public Works Dept, Punjab; served Hazara Expedition, 1888 (medal and clasp, despatches); Hazara Expedition, 1892 (clasp, despatches); served with Chitral relief force, 1895 (despatches, medal, clasp, and DSO); invalided to England, 1897; returned to India, 1898; officiating Chief Engineer, Punjab, PWD, 1903–04; returned to England, 1904; retired, 1906; re-employed, 1909, as War Office Inspector of Territorial Buildings; and in charge of building operations Duke of York’s Headquarters, Chelsea; Special Duty Horse Guards, London Dist., 1915–19 (despatches, CBE)
