Holds hon. degrees from Oxford, Cambridge and other UK univs. Hon. QC 2000. Jawaharlal Nehru Award, India, 1979; Simon Bolivar Prize, UNESCO, 1983; Sakharov Prize, 1988; (with F. W. De Klerk) Nobel Peace Prize, 1993
